This project was the City and Borough of Juneau’s second Seawalk segment. This section of Juneau’s seawalk was about 1,500 feet long, included over-water and upland development, and dealt with a variety of unique conditions. The upland portion integrated and made improvements around the existing Fishermen’s Memorial, Taku Fisheries’ recirculating seawater system and fish processing plant, an outdoor restaurant dining area, and the Intermediate Vessel Float loading ramp, before going over water for 800 feet in a serpentine route to connect to an existing commercial walkway. The upland segment also incorporates a unique floating boardwalk over poor bearing soils (including wood products from a plywood mill that operated in the mid-20th century). The overwater portion incorporates rain activated sound sculptures every 50 feet. The project required detailed public and business coordination with the Taku Fisheries, The Twisted Fish, and the Miner’s Cove properties. Wilson Engineering provided assistance with the planning and design of the project and provided CA and Inspection of the work.

Construction Cost: $2,620,000.
