Pioneer Jewelers

Juneau, Alaska 2004

This downtown waterfront project is next door to the North Ferry Dock and has similar pile construction details and pile-bearing elevations. The work included the installation of 19 steel pipe piles, including two 16” fin piles, five 12.75” batter piles and 12 vertical steel pipe piles. All piles were 100-ton, driven to refusal on bedrock. Other inspection work included full penetration pile splices, welding steel pile caps to piles, installation of welded moment frame connections, reinforced concrete deck, and tilt-up pre-cast wall panels. Julie Dietz of Q.A. Services provided all Ultrasonic (UT) testing of the full penetration welds. This work was performed during the busy summer season without incident.
